How to trim an MP3 or any audio file
Cut the silence or chatter off the start and end of a recording, or keep just one part of a song. Tailwave does it in your browser: the file is never uploaded.
Trim in five steps
- Open the editor and drop your file onto the page, or choose . MP3, WAV, FLAC, Ogg, Opus, AIFF and M4A all work.
- Select the part you want to keep. Drag across the waveform. To be exact, type the times into the and boxes at the bottom of the window.
- Listen to it. Press Space to play the selection, and drag its edges until it starts and ends where you want.
- Trim. Choose or press T. Everything outside the selection is removed.
- Export. Press (or Ctrl+Shift+E), pick MP3 or another format, and press . The file downloads.
Remove a part from the middle instead
Select the part you don't want and press Delete. The audio after it moves up to close the gap. To keep the timing and only make it quiet, use (Ctrl+L).
Tips
- Zoom in with Ctrl+= or the mouse wheel with Ctrl held, to place the cut between words or beats.
- A short fade avoids a click where you cut: select a few milliseconds at the edge and choose or .
- Made a mistake? Ctrl+Z undoes it, as many steps back as you like. On a Mac, use ⌘ for Ctrl.
Private by design. Tailwave copies your file into your browser's own storage on this device. Nothing is uploaded, and there's no account.
