How to fade audio in and out
A fade makes a song, a ringtone or a clip start and end gently instead of abruptly. In Tailwave the fade covers exactly what you select.
Fade in or out in four steps
- Open the editor and drop your file onto the page.
- Select where the fade happens: the first few seconds for a fade in, the last few for a fade out. The box at the bottom shows how long it is, and you can type an exact length there.
- Choose or . It's applied at once; press Space to listen.
- Export with .
Pick the shape
The shape is set in the menu under , and is used by every fade after that:
- Linear: even all the way. Fine for short fades.
- Equal power: keeps the perceived loudness steady, best where two sounds overlap.
- S-curve: gentle at both ends. Natural for music endings.
- Exponential: drops quickly, then tails off. Sounds like a slow volume knob.
Fades on clips
Clips on the timeline have fade handles of their own: hover over a clip and drag the small handles at its top corners to fade it in or out without changing the audio underneath.
